Graduate Student Study Carrels

The Main Library has 30 locking study carrels distributed throughout the building. These carrels are intended for use by graduate students.

Graduate students and faculty selected by their deans have first priority in obtaining carrels. At the beginning of each semester the deans of the academic schools prepare a list of graduate students who should have priority in receiving carrels (generally those students working on a thesis). If there are still unassigned carrels after one month, other graduate students may request and obtain a carrel.

Carrels are assigned for one semester and are generally renewable for one additional semester.

Requests for study carrels should be made in the Collection Development Office on the 4th floor of the Main Library, telephone 2797-6391.

Patrons assigned carrels will be asked to sign an agreement form governing the use of the carrel and then will be given a key to the carrel. The key should be returned to the Collection Development Office at the end of the semester.

If the patron loses or forgets the key to a carrel:

During regular office hours (usually 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)
The patron should go to the Collection Development Office with a valid ID and request that the carrel be unlocked.

After regular office hours:
The patron should go to the Circulation Desk and with a valid ID and request assistance in unlocking the carrel. (If the key is lost and a new key is needed, the patron must make a request for a new key in the Collection Development Office during normal working hours.)

If a key must be replaced, there will be a LE10 charge.
