
AUC Library users have online access to a large collection of electronic resources, including electronic journals, Books, indexes & abstracts, and statistical databases.Authorized Users may access most of these resources from any Internet connection in Cairo, Egypt, or the world. A small number of these resources are restricted to on-campus or in-library access only, and these are clearly identified on the Find Articles webpage.

Authorized Users for Off-Campus Access
The Library's license agreements permit off-campus access to the following categories of users holding a valid AUC ID card:
- Currently enrolled AUC Undergraduate and Graduate Students †
- Current AUC Faculty ‡
- AUC Emeritus Professors
- Current AUC Full-time Staff ‡
- Current SCE Full-time Faculty ‡
† AUC graduate students who are actively working on their thesis but not enrolled may request off-campus access for one semester. The graduate student’s thesis advisor must submit an email to eResources@aucegypt.edu stating the student’s name and AUC ID number, and confirming the student is working on his/her thesis though not enrolled. At the end of the semester, access will be terminated. Access will be restored when the student registers again.
‡ AUC faculty and staff on an approved leave-of-absence may request off-campus access for up to one year. The requester’s department head must submit an email to eResources@aucegypt.edu stating the employee’s name and AUC ID number, and confirming his/her last work date and return to work date. The department head must also email if the employee’s status or leave changes.
The library is not permitted to provide off-campus access to the following categories of users:
- AUC Part-time Staff
- SCE Part-time Faculty or Staff
- SCE Students
- Visitors
- Alumni
- Faculty Spouses
Procedures for Off-Campus Access
Off-Campus Access to eResources should be initiated from the library’s website as indicated below.
- To access a database, go to the Find Articles webpage and select a database.
- To access an electronic journal, go to the E-Journal Finder webpage, and search by Title or Subject.
- To access an electronic book, go the Library Catalog and search by Author, Title, or Subject.
When you click on a link to an electronic resource, the AUC Libraries log-in window (see figure below) will open. It prompts for Your Name and Barcode on the back of the AUC ID card.
If the log in is successful, the resource will open. If you enter your details incorrectly, access will be denied with the message “Sorry, the information you submitted was invalid. Please try again.”
If your name and bar code number are entered correctly, and log-in is unsuccessful, there are 2 possible reasons.
- If you have an AUC ID card but are not an Authorized Users, access is not permitted.
- If you are an Authorized User and you see the message “Your patron privileges have expired”, contact the Circulation Desk in person, by email at mamdouh@aucegypt.edu, or by phone at 2615-3776 to resolve outstanding problems with your patron status.
Access from Tahrir Square Campus
Access from the Tahrir Square Campus is considered off-campus and log-in is required. This is dictated by our license agreements.
Question or Problem with Off-Campus Access
If you have any a question or a problem accessing the library's electronic resources, send an email to eResources@aucegypt.edu. Please include the URL, and an explanation of what you did before access was blocked or denied. If possible, include in the email a screen shot of the webpage. We need to know the link you clicked or the URL you used to access the resource, and the exact details that displayed as a result.
