online Online Reserve Form

Purpose of Reserve Services

The Reserve system allows maximum use of classroom assigned materials. Instructors may request that books be transferred from the general Library collection or periodical articles photocopied from the general collection, or they may provide their personal copies of books and articles. Requests should preferably be limited to "required" reading. "Suggested" readings have a very low circulation rate and may safely be left in the general collection.

Submitting Reserve Requests

Reserve requests should be submitted on the appropriate forms, available online (just print out the form and send it either via campus mail to Mamdouh Phillip, Library Circulation Services, Mail Code #228 or deliver it in person to the Reserve Desk) or pick up a form the Reserve Desk on the 1st floor of the Main Library. All items must be submitted on the form provided, giving complete information including desired loan period, author, title, call number. You may select from the following loan periods:

"2-hour In Library" loans: These materials are due two hours from time of checkout and must be used in the Library.

"2-hour Out Library" loans: These materials are due two hours from time of checkout and can leave the Library building.

"2-hour/Overnight"loans: These materials are due two hours from checkout, or if checked out overnight, are due at 9:00 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 11:00 AM Saturday. Items are available for overnight loan after 5:00 PM. If there is more than one copy on Reserve, all but one copy may be checked out after 3:00 PM for overnight use.

"2-day" loans: These materials are due two days from the date checked out, at the same hour as checked out. If this time period ends when the library is closed, then the item will be due one hour after the library next opens.

Often the Library has several editions of a title. If you want the newest edition only placed on reserve, put an "X" in that column of the reserve book list form. If the column is left blank, Reserve Services will put all available editions on reserve.

Ideally these requests should be submitted at least 15 days before the beginning of the semester to ensure that material is available in time for classes. Reserve requests are processed in the order received.

Reserve Services MUST have a reserve list submitted each semester that the course is taught, even if the materials are repeated from the previous semester.

Textbooks

One copy of every textbook available at the AUC Bookstore is placed on Reserve.

Book Order Requests

To request the purchase of titles for Reserve, submit a Library Book Order Request Form, approved by your department head. It may take up to six months to obtain an item from outside Egypt. The instructor will be notified when the item is received.

Journal Article Requests

Journals will not be placed on Reserve. Photocopies or reprints of articles are to be used instead. Items photocopied and supplied by an instructor (in accordance with copyright law) are given priority in processing over items photocopied by the Library.

Copyright

The AUC Library observes international copyright law by prohibiting copying as a substitute for the purchase of books or periodicals. For specific guidelines on copyright for reserve use click here.
