Borrowing Procedures | Loan Periods | Returns | Fines | Recalls and Renewals
The Reserve System allows limited materials to receive maximum use by all students in a particular class. Rules are strictly enforced so that everyone has an equal chance to read material assigned by the class instructors. Please remember the Reserve System operates effectively only with your cooperation.
Items will be removed from Reserve Services at the end of each semester. Photocopies and personal copies will be sent to the faculty member's department if they are not claimed in person. Copies of your lists will be kept on file for one year should you need to consult them.
You must present your validated Library ID Card each time you request an item at the Reserve Desk on the 1st floor of the Main Library. Up to three items per person may be checked out at one time.
Loan Periods are determined by the professor.
"2-hour Only" loans: These materials are due two hours from time of checkout and must be used in the Library.
"2-hour/Overnight" loans: These materials are due two hours from checkout, or if checked out overnight, are due at 9:00 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 11:00 AM Saturday. Items are available for overnight loan after 5:00 PM. If there is more than one copy on Reserve, all but one copy may be checked out after 3:00 PM for overnight use.
"2-day" loans: These materials are due two days from the date checked out, at the same hour as checked out. If this time period ends when the library is closed, then the item will be due one hour after the library next opens.
Patrons have to return Reserve items to the Reserve Desk. Items returned to any other location will not be counted as returned until they are back in Reserve. Patrons are responsible for returning any reserve item they take to the Library Copy Center.
The heavy demand for items on Reserve requires a strict overdue policy. No one is exempt or excused from overdue fines.
Item Fine per hour (when Library is open):
From 1 to 10 hours 2 LE
After 10 hours 5 LE
Maximum Fine 125 LE
If the Reserve Item is lost, charge will be:
Fine charges + overhead charge (50LE) + replacement cost.
The Library will consider a Reserve Item "LOST" after 5 working days overdue.
Reserve items are checked out on a "first come, first served" basis and cannot be recalled or "saved." Renewals may be made in person at the Reserve Desk only if there is no demand for the item.
