Making Voice of America in Egypt Heard Again: Digitization and Online Access for the VOA Sound Archive at the American University in Cairo Library

Supported by the U.S. Embassy in Egypt Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program, the project Making Voice of America in Egypt Heard Again: Digitization and Online Access for the VOA Sound Archive at the American University in Cairo Library brought to life news stories on events and societal themes, interviews with leading figures like Naguib Mahfouz, interviews with political leaders, radio programs on topics like women's issues in Egypt and the Middle East, dramatic/literary readings, and musical performances. More than 2,000 reel-to-reel audio tapes covering over 10,000 recordings made by the VOA branch in Egypt are now available for listening on the Rare Books and Special Collections Digital Library.

Celebrating UNESCO Award to AUC Libraries-RBSCL

AUC’s Libraries and Learning Technologies (LLT) won the 2022 UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize for the decades of preservation work carried out by the Rare Books and Special Collections Library (RBSCL). Representatives from the library accepted the prize in South Korea on September 22. On November 20, 2022, AUC President Ahmed Dallal, the Deputy Ambassador of South Korea and representatives from the Egyptian National Commission of UNESCO joined AUC Libraries and Learning Technologies (LLT) faculty and staff in a celebration to recognize this winning the UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the Word Prize for its outstanding contributions in preserving world cultural heritage.
