Hard Copy Reserves

A student with a valid  AUC ID card can check out items from the Reserve Desk in the Library.

Loan periods are determined by the professor:

  • Two-hour-only loan: these materials are due two hours from the time of checkout. They must only be used in the library

  • Two-hour/overnight loan: these materials are due two hours from checkout. Items are available for overnight loan after 5 pm. If there is more than one copy on reserve, all but one copy may be checked out after 3 pm for overnight use. I checked out overnight, they will be due at 9 am Sundays through Thursdays and at 11 am on Saturdays.

  • Two-day loan: these materials are due two days from the checkout date and time. If this time period ends when the library is closed, then the item will be due one hour after the library next opens.

Patrons have to return reserve items to the Reserve Desk. Items returned to any other locations will not be counted as returned until they are back to the Reserve Desk. Patrons are responsible for returning any reserve items taken to the library Copy Center.

The heavy demand on reserves requires a strict overdue policy. No one is exempted or excused from overdue fines.

  • Late Return:

During library opening hours, fines are as follows:

From 1 to 10 hours    EGP 2 per hour

After 10 hours            EGP 20 + EGP 5 per hour

Maximum fine            EGP 125

  •  Lost Items:

If a reserved item is lost, the charge will be:

Fine charges + processing charge (EGP 50) + replacement cost

The library will consider a reserved item LOST after it is five working days overdue.

Recalls and Renewals

Reserve items are checked out on a "first come, first served" basis and cannot be recalled or "Hold." Renewals may be made in person at the reserve desk only if there is no demand for the item.
