Borrow, Renew, Request Books

Borrowing

Patrons with a valid AUC ID card who are eligible to borrow books can do so at the circulation desk on the plaza level, or at a self-checkout unit on each floor.

Self-checkout units will issue a receipt that should be kept as a reminder of the due date.

If assistance is needed, do not hesitate to contact the circulation staff members.

You are accountable for items borrowed on your ID. Do not let others use your ID card, or borrow items on behalf of others.

For reserves policies, refer to the appropriate page.

Returns and Fines

Books should be returned on or before the due date in the "Return Books" slot at the Circulation Desk, or at the library entrance.

An overdue book will automatically block a patron from borrowing. Fines will begin to accrue on the day following the due date, according to this schedule:

Item fines per working day:

From 1 - 10 days: 50 PT
After 10 days: 150 PT
Maximum Fine: EGP 50

Lost Items

The library will consider an item lost after 60 working days. The cost of a lost book (plus fines and a processing fee of EGP 50 will be billed to the patron. The amount billed will be canceled or refunded if the book is returned within three months.

Renewals

Books checked out can be renewed on or before the due date, provided there is no hold on the book. You can renew your book(s) in several ways:

Requests

If a book is checked out, circulation staff members can place a hold on the item. When the item is checked back in, a notice will automatically be sent to the patron and the book will be held for pick-up for seven days at the circulation desk.

If a book is not checked out, but cannot be found on the shelf, a search request form may be filled online or at the circulation desk. Staff members will search for the item and notify patrons via email. Found items will be held for pick-up for seven days at the circulation desk.

All books are subject to recall 14 days after their first checkout date, and/or at any time for reserve use.
